KFGQPC’s Care for Persons with Disabilities

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia harnessed all its capabilities to serve Sharia sciences and spread it, as well as the Da'wah to Allah with wisdom and good exhortation, and gave great and care to the Glorious Qur’an and everything that pertains to it, whose effects were evident in various fields, and were felt near and far, including its care for people with disabilities in many centers, institutions, associations and competitions, such as the King Salman Center for Disability Research, the Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Charitable Foundation, the Association for Disabled Children, the Prince Sultan bin Salman competition for memorizing the Glorious Qur’an for disabled children, etc.
The King Fahd Glorious Qur’an Printing Complex is a bright example of this blessed country’s care for the Glorious Qur’an and its Sciences, and since KFGQPC is characterized as being the authority on the Glorious Qur’an and its Sciences. KFGQPC has contributed to the most important needs of the Muslim with disability in his daily life. Such as reading the Glorious Qur’an and learning its rulings through projects that serve this category, which are as follows:

  1. Accomplished Works
  1. Issuing the Translation of the Meanings of the Glorious Qur’an into Sign Language:
  2. The project contains an explanation of the meanings of the words in each interpreted Surah, then the overall interpretation of the entire Surah, then the most important benefits and rulings in the jurisprudence of life learned from the Surah.
    It includes six publications:
    - The first publication (10 Surahs): Surah al-Fatihah, and from Surah al-Nas till Surah Quraysh.
    - The second publication (10 Surahs): from the beginning of Surah al-Fil till the end of Surah al-'Alaq.
    _ The third publication (6 Surahs): from the beginning of Surah al-Tin till the end of Surah al-Balad.
    - The fourth publication (4 Surahs): from the beginning of Surah al-Fajr till the end of Surah al-Tariq.
    - The Fifth publication (4 Surahs): from the beginning of Surah al-Buruj till the end of Surah al-Infitar.
    - The sixth publication (4 Surahs): from the beginning of Surah al-Takwir till the end of surah al-Naba’.
    The aforementioned six publications were combined and issued in one DVD as part of the project of the Interpretation of the Meanings of the Glorious Qur’an in Sign Language within an automatic operation program. It includes: A brief overview about KFGQPC, the Digital Research Center, the goals of interpreting the meanings of the Glorious Qur’an in sign language, its approach, and the explanatory text for each publication.

    It contains a film in sign language for some of the Surahs of the Glorious Qur'an, which are presented as divided according to the Surah and its topics.
  5. The Publication of al-Madinah al-Nabawiyyah Musḥaf for the sight-impaired (in Braille):
  6. KFGQPC made great efforts to produce al-Madinah al-Nabawiyyah Musḥaf for the sight-impaired (in Braille):
    Programs:
    A program of producing the Musḥaf in Braille was prepared in cooperation between KFGQPC and the competent authority in the Ministry of Education. The program was reviewed by specialists in writing the Musḥaf in Braille. Improvements were made on it, and it was modified. After its completion, it was reviewed again in Madinah by blind people with excellent experience in this field, to ensure the validity of the program, which is the basis for the production of the Musḥaf in Braille.
    Fittings:
    Specialists from KFGQPC visited specialized factories in Europe, where the method of work was examined, and the most appropriate and modern devices and equipment were selected for the stages of printing, stamping, folding, sewing and packaging. In addition, devices and equipment have been supplied.
    Staff:
    In light of the requirements of the selected devices and equipment for the production of the Musḥaf in Braille, a technical and administrative team was formed and qualified for work.
    - Printing al-Madinah al-Nabawiyyah Musḥaf for the sight-impaired (in Braille):
    The Printing of al-Madinah al-Nabawiyyah Musḥaf in Braille in KFGQPC started after preparing all the relevant requirements, as a contribution from KFGQPC in providing customized copies for people with visual disabilities.
  7. Teaching the Glorious Qur’an with audio guidance Website:

    It contains a voice guidance program for teaching the Glorious Qur’an, which targets people with disabilities, and is working in several languages: Arabic, English, Chinese, Yoruba, French, Russian, Indonesian, Urdu, Spanish, Portuguese, Persian, German and Turkish.
  9. Holding a symposium entitled: Teaching the Glorious Qur’an to people with disabilities:

Because of the keenness of the King Fahd Glorious Qur’an Printing Complex on the Glorious Qur’an and its Sciences, realizing the importance of studying the foundations, methods and means aimed at serving persons with disabilities, by conveying the Glorious Qur’an and its Meanings to them in an easy way, considering the reality of teaching the Glorious Qur’an for persons with disabilities in the Islamic world and evaluating it, providing solutions that lead to overcoming the challenges of teaching the Glorious Qur’an for this category, highlighting the achievements that the Kingdom has made in this field, foreseeing future visions and prospects that can be achieved in this regard through various media, and complementing KFGQPC actions in serving these dear categories, the King Fahd Glorious Qur’an Printing Complex held an international symposium in this field entitled: Teaching the Glorious Qur’an to People with Disabilities: An Assessment of the Reality and a Foresight of the Future, during the period: (2-4/2/1441 AH), in which specialists and those interested in the affairs of persons with disabilities from inside and outside the Kingdom participated.

  1. The Topical Interpretation of the Meanings of the Glorious Qur’an in Sign Language:
  2. It includes the following publications:
    1. Interpretation of selected Ayahs on important topics in faith.
    2. Interpretation of selected Ayahs on important topics in purification.
    3. Interpretation of selected Ayahs on important topics in prayer.
    4. Interpretation of selected Ayahs on important topics in acts of worship.
    5. Interpretation of selected Ayahs on important topics in transactions.
    6. Interpretation of selected Ayahs on important topics in ethics and morals.
    This project will be, Allah willing, in six publications, which will be released successively.
    Selecting and arranging them took into account the importance of these topics, and the needs of the deaf-mute category in their daily lives, and their understanding of the chapters of the true religion at the foundations of belief, the obligatory and recommended acts of worship, the transactions that concern the Muslim in buying and selling and the like, as well as the morals and etiquette that should be observed by the Muslim.
    The noble Ayahs that will be chosen on each topic will be through an exhaustive collection of the Ayahs on the specific topic, then the selection of the comprehensive and fulfilling Ayahs for that topic will be made.
    The presentation of this project within each publication will be in four sections:
    The meanings of words of the Ayahs.
    The overall interpretation of the Ayahs.
    The Jurisprudence rulings.
    The lessons learned from the Ayahs.
    Drafting the interpretation took into account that it targets the deaf-mute category, with the importance of choosing easy and clear phrases, highlighting the pronouns that the ordinary reader understands, and avoiding lengthening and branching.
    With Allah's help and guidance, the text of the interpretation of the six publications was drafted, according to the mentioned topics.
  3. The Interactive Audio Musḥaf for the Visually Impaired:
  4. KFGQPC is looking forward to serving the Glorious Qur’an on various aspects, paying great attention to people with different disabilities, such as the deaf-mute, and others, and seeking to apply technology to meet the needs of these categories.
    The idea of the project is based on linking the sense of touching of the person with a visual disability for the pages of the Musḥaf that are printed in Braille, with the audible sound of what is written by a laser beam that reads the code of the words of the Glorious Qur’an and connected to the finger of the blind, and moving from one Ayah to another by touching the page’s words, or by an external card indexed with the names and numbers of the Surahs, interpretations, books, and translations, or by an electronic device attached to the Musḥaf printed in Braille.
  5. The Glorious Qur’an program with voice commands for mobile phones operating on Android:
  6. It is an interactive educational program for the Glorious Qur’an that works with voice commands on the Android system, and on devices that are programmed with this system, such as SAMSUNG GALAXY and others.
    It depends on activating smart commands, in terms of processing voice commands, with the correct response, in case the pronunciation differs from one person to another, as well as after the end of recitation or memorization, such as: returning to the main menu, returning to the Qur’an memorization list, repeating the memorization session, listening to the interpretation of Ayahs, turning off the program, and so on.
